Phillip Thomas (Miami Edison) gets visits.

(19 posts)
  1. FSU visited Thomas today. After seeing being sent his highlight sometime last week, they wanted game film today. It will be interesting if FSU pulls the trigger, Thomas is a more than capable S that is flying under the radar. He was also visited by Marshall today as well as Kent St. yesterday.

This is Clevan Thomas's brother, no?

Didn't he have like 8 picks this season in his first year?

  3. Yes, and I believe it was 8.

He's the real deal, that no one really knows. Miami looked to have interest, but they got S all over this class. As soon as he gets his film out, more schools will take notice.

    What are FSU's chances?

I can deal with taking a flyer on a Dade kid.

  5. They offer, he's theirs. I'm not sure I'd call him a flyer, he's one of the best 2009 safeties I've seen play this fall.

He's a FS and may even be able to play CB. Kayvon Webster, who Miami is going to try at CB, is a SS all the way.

Not playing ball as a Junior and taking the ACT for the first time in late October really hurt Phillip. Now he's qualified and looking for a place to play.

You are the man Luke! Is he that good? Why is he under the radar.

  7. 1) Didn't play as a Jr.
    2) Played at Edison, they were overlooked this season
    3) No test score until the season was finished. (Meaning he never even took the test at all)
    4) No film. I think I could get White House security tapes before I get Phillips highlight.

When I saw him the first thing that ran through my head was "Oh my a Big Ten type of school is going to get them a freaking STEAL!" They may still since no one has offered other than Western Michigan and maybe some other small schools.

Looks like we just may have snuck him in the North-South Dade All-Star game, and if so hopefully some more colleges can get to see him in action. Practices finish this week out plus all of next week as well, so it would be good for him to get in there.

This is great news. Thanks for the heads up. I hope we offer based off what you said. Do you think FSU will offer?

    Do you think FSU offers?

  10. If I had to put money on it I would say no. I didn't think they would offer Byrd either, but Byrd can show them in a game in person what he has Thomas doesn't have that opportunity.

Is Thomas playing in any all-star games?

Eventually he will get offered, me thinks. We need DBs.

  12. He is playing in the North-South Dade game. They are practicing today and all of next week at Williams Park on NW 17th St. and NW 5th Ave in Overtown.

I should have a practice report this weekend, some gems on both squads that not many people get to hear much about.

I'm sure someone from FSU will be there to watch him practice or play.

    I hope so anyway.

They better not tell anyone. Division 1 coaches are not supposed to watch All Star practices or games this year. They could just park in the street the football field is right there along 17th.

  15. It actually is illegal to watch these all-star practices and games this season I guess. Universities are trying to overturn the NCAA's new rule on this.

But if any coaches need a spot to park their car, 17th St. has some spots that happen to be RIGHT next to the field where the North practices.

If any of you coaches are feeling chubby and need some exercise the WHOLE community is out working out on the track surrounding the South practices at Moore Park on 36th St.

There are ways around the NCAA's stupidity.

the NCAA is bunch of idiots. How are some of those hidden gems going to get attention? Some of those kids might not go to college because of this.

Also, if you get some Thomas film can you post it? I think everyone would like a look.

Sorry about the amount of questions I have. I hope you don't mind. I am just curious about this kid. What 2009 safeties have you seen this year? And what past or current player would you compare him to?

  19. I've seen Kayvon Webster (Miami), Brandan Bishop (NCState), Terrance Taylor (Rutgers), Artice Kellam (Ole Miss), Brandon McGee (S/CB/Ath Miami), Tevin McCaskill, and I'm sure more talented kids I'm forgetting.

Saw Thomas play Webster head to head, both even got time at WR. Webster may be a little better but it isn't by much. The thing is Thomas is more explosive and will play FS, while I see Webster playing SS or maybe even a LB spot. Thomas will also knock your head off too. He's just so quick from seeing the ball, planting a foot, and getting to the WR.

I've been trying to get film on Thomas for a couple weeks now. I may have to go to his home and camp out until I get my hands on some. I should have some film on him at the All-Star practices Monday or Tues.
