Greg Dent to camp at FSU

(13 posts)
  1. After Glades Central heads to Minnesota July 9-12 to complete in the national 7-on-7 for winning the Dolphin's tournament a couple weeks back, Dent is planning on camping at FSU.

He didn't know the date, but I would guess it is Seminole Showtime on he 18th.

We have a camp the week before then, which I hope he comes to, then SS. Its called the Bowden camp and its a great way to get an offer if you impress there. I remember that happening to Terrence Parks when he participated. I really want FSU to show him some love and I really want him to earn it as well. Hopefully he does well because he could be the best kept secret in the state as of now.

  3. Let's just hope Jesse or someone in Belle Glade gets him up to the camp, or any camp for that matter. He needs to start seeing some campuses, meeting some coaches, and getting some more coaching at CB.

Lack of trips to camps is one of many reasons why he's such a secret.

If Dent was a 4.4 guy, I would put him at the top of the heap at corner. As it stands, he's pretty close. I was really impressed with his ability at the Heath Evans event. There is no doubt in my mind that he is one of the top 30 or so prospects in the state of Florida.

What do you think his speed is...4.5? If he came to the Bowden camp, he would have an oppurtunity to run the 40. I know there are several CBs who will participate in hopes of earning an offer like Rashad Knight. I believe Tony Grimes will be there as well. Hopefully Dent gets a chance to prove his speed like these guys will.

  6. 4.55 range probably? He looks fast enough on the field. He laid down a horrible 40 time at the UA Combine, but I was told the two previous nights Dent and GC played in basketball games. The game that was the night before the combine turned into a 3 OT thriller.

Dent is better than any of those guys. In terms of corners, I think the only prospects in the state I would take over Dent right now are Watkins and Payne.

I think he ran right around a 4.7 at the UA camp, he plays faster than that though. I'm sure he could get it down in the low 4.5s after getting to college.

You're talking about a legit corner who will play at 5-11, and probably somewhere in the range of 190-205 in college. I would take him in a heartbeat if he can show he's interested in playing ball somewhere.

I would take Mitchell ahead of him as well. FSU likes fast corners but if you can cover, you can cover. The 4.7 may be whats keeping some schools from offering. Like you said, if he wants to see his stock go up, he needs to come to a camp and post a solid 40 to dispel that UA time. I don't think there is much film on him so thats not helping either. I'm rooting for him to get an offer...he would be a steal but I can see why teams aren't necessarilly pulling the trigger.

  9. 185 in college? He looks to be pushing that right now, pretty thick in the shoulders.

When I look at him I can't help but think of the metamorphosis Janoris Jenkin's body underwent after a semester and summer in college. I can see Dent doing the same once he starts getting 3 squares and a S&C coach riding him daily.

Yeah, I edited my post when I went back and looked at the UA numbers. He weighed in at 176 back in February. He probably is closing on that 185 number by now.

The thing about Dent is when the ball is in the air he has another gear that can't be measured by a 40 yard dash. I think he is the top corner in South Florida.

I wouldn't take Mitchell over Dent...he's fast, but Dent is a lot bigger. Dent's upside is a lot higher than Mitchell's, IMO.

Appreciate the insight. I still don't think I would take him over Mitchell but hopefully our coaches get an oppurtunity to see something that could change that. As of now, based on film and camps, I like what Mitchell has to offer. He's a fast CB, not the biggest, but will come up and hit. I wish Dent had some film out there I could see. His size is definitely a plus. I remember Janoris ran a 4.66 40 so I'm not overly concerned about his UA time but I would like him to post a solid one at our camp.
