2011 Dubose One to Watch
March 5, 2009 by Luke Stampini
Northeast High School lost one talented defensive end to Wisconsin this past season in David Gilbert. For 2009 it looks like the Hurricanes will lean on 2011 prospect Bryant Dubose to provide the bulk of their pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Dubose came onto the season late last season after seeing very limited action the first four games. Starting the final six games, Dubose racked up 9 sacks, and feels offenses having to account for Gilbert may have benefited him.
“It was pretty fun [playing along side Gilbert],” said Dubose. “I think he made my job a little easier, because he got a lot of attention.”
Dubose has been opening eyes during the combines so far this off season with his size and athleticism.
“At the Under Armour camp I did pretty good. I think I did better at the National Underclassmen camp, and look to do more in more camps coming up.”
Once May rolls around Dubose also plans on showing college coaches that stop by practice that he is one to watch for 2011.
“I’m going to try show I’m an aggressive player and that I make plays.”
It seems college coaches have already taken some notice of Dubose as a few schools have chatted it up with him already.
“I spoke to a couple that came to the school, Michigan State, David’s coach from Wisconsin, and Louisville’s coach when they came for the twins [Isaac and Jacob Geffard].”
Dubose also talked about what part of his game he is hoping to improve in the off season.
“Just trying to get a little bigger and a little stronger, that’s about it,” said Dubose. “Also get my technique down, make it better, the basic fundamentals.”
Dubose is also a member of the Hurricane basketball team and plans on heading to NIKE Camp later this month.
