Glades Central vs. Carol City

August 31, 2009 by Luke Stampini

Glades Central traveled to Traz Powell Stadium to take on Carol City in what turned out to be a defensive struggle. The Chiefs held on for a 14-6 victory over the Raiders.

********CAROL CITY********

Teandric Slocum (pictured) 2010 S 6′1″ 180: Slocum did a good job denying the deep passing game that Glades Central relies on so much. While he has the ability to cover a lot of ground, his trademark is big-time hits on ball carriers. Slocum made an acrobatic interception only to have his toe tap to barely land on the white sideline in the corner of the end zone.

Ernest Freeman 2012 RB 5′11″ 185: Freeman was hobbled by what appeared to be an ankle injury and only saw limited action Saturday night, but was very effective on his carries. He is a power back that is at his best between the tackles.

Allen Hurns 2010 WR 6′2″ 180: Hurns is hurt by the fact Carol City does not pass the ball much, but he was still able to haul in a few catches. He is a big receiver that has decent speed.

Troy Johnson 2011 DB 5′11″ 170: Johnson is just one of many young players on the Carol City defense. Johnson came away with an interception and a forced fumble on the night, and was the other terror in the Chiefs secondary with Slocum.

Bramond Snell 2013 RB 5′8″ 160: Snell has excellent speed and is the “lightning” to Freeman’s “thunder” for Carol City. He is undersized right now, but only being a freshman right now, he should grow some over the next couple of years.

Others of Note: Keandre Shine 2011 LB, Imarjaye Albury 2012 LB, Ruben Lawhorn 2010 WR

**********GLADES CENTRAL*********

Isiah Corbett 2010 DL 6′0″ 250: Corbett took about a quarter of play to get going and then he started putting his stamp on the game. He was in on several plays throughout the game and will be key to the success of the Raiders’ defense. Corbett is a bit of a “tweener” and not exactly sure what his best position will be at the next level. Bulking up and moving to a defensive tackle position could end up being his best avenue.

Robert Way 2011 DE 6′2″ 185: Way did not get significant reps until the second half and quickly made his presence felt. Way pressured the quarterback several times coming away with a pair of sacks as well.

William Likley 2013 DB 5′7″ 155: Likley was impressive for a freshman and got a lot of tick during crunch time for the Raiders. He is undersized, but did a good job lining head up the slot receiver and covering him man to man. Likley even was tested by Carol City’s Allen Hurns and came out unscathed.

Kelvin Benjamin 2011 WR 6′6″ 215: Benjamin only played one half of ball, but still racked up 5 catches for just over 100 yards. His speed and agility seem to be improving every time he steps on a field, doing his part in possibly dispelling the notion of him eventually moving to tight end.

Others of Note: Jamie Wilson 2012 S, Edward Alvin 2010 WR
