Louis has Four on his Mind
July 8, 2009 by Luke Stampini
Delray Beach Atlantic 2010 receiver James Louis has been a prospect on the move this summer. The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder has camped at Minnesota, North Carolina, Rutgers, UCF, and Georgia. After getting a chance to meet several coaches on many different campuses Louis has narrowed his list to a small group of schools he is focusing on now.
“Right now North Carolina is coming hard right now,” said Louis. “Georgia, Florida still, and Ohio State, that’s really the top schools that are looking at me. I’ve narrowed it down to those top schools that I’m interested in.”
Many believed Louis was set to commit to the Gators following their spring game. As the weeks went by and that did not happen, the theories why he had not committed began to fly. One theory was he did not want to compete for playing time with Pahokee slot receiver Chris Dunkley, who many believe is leaning to the Gators. Ironically enough, the same questions of competitiveness were asked about Dunkley following his statements on 2009 Gator signee Andre Debose.
“Me and Chris Dunkley have a great relationship,” said Louis. “Actually, today I was with Chris Dunkley. I’m not scared of competition, that’s one thing I love, competition. That right there, I’d never have a problem with competition. He’s a great player, I’m a great player, we are both great players, so I don’t see anything wrong with that.”
Louis, who claims to have “never cooled” on Florida, asserts there would be no issue if the two decided to attend the same university.
“I would love to work with him because we’ve been to a couple camps together and we work perfect together. That (attending the same school) won’t be a problem.”
While it seems everything is status quo for Louis and the Gators, the school that is on the rise is North Carolina.
“I went up there to kind of see how it was, and it was very good,” said Louis. “I like the way they run their offense and I think I’ll be able to get the ball a lot playing at North Carolina. I just think I’m very close with the coaching staff, we have a great relationship. I just love it up there in North Carolina.”
Louis currently feels he will make a decision before the season starts this fall. The exciting playmaker discussed what he’s looking for in a school.
“I’m just looking for a school, first thing first, I can get a great education. I’m looking for a school that I can go play football. . . They don’t have to win 4, 5 national championships, that doesn’t matter to me. I just want to go somewhere I feel comfortable with the coaches and players. Where I just feel like I’m home.”
This weekend Louis was scheduled to visit Virginia Tech with teammate and Hokie commit Mark Leal. Louis will not be making the trip to attend to family matters.
