STA’s White Talented As Well

The St. Thomas Aquinas football team never seems to lack in the depth department. No other position was this more apparent than at the running back this past season. Gaining most of the headlines, along with the early scholarship offers, was Giovanni Bernard. James White, Bernard’s running mate, may get overlooked at times, but the back is no slouch.

“If one person is not doing so good one day, the other can pick up the slack,” said White on sharing ball carrying duties for the Raiders. “In the game it’s nice to know you have someone just as good as you are.”

White had 123 carries for 944 yards and 18 rushing touchdowns this past season.  At 5-foot10, 190-pounds, White proves tough to bring down. Added to his powerfully built frame is speed that has been clocked as low as 4.43 seconds in the forty. The measurables are nice, but White is hoping for continued improvement this off-season.

“I’m really trying to put on more weight, try to put on 10 pounds by next season,” said White. “So I will really be in shape. Really got to pick up some of my speed and get a little more strength.”

White went on to describe what he feels separates him from the other running backs in South Florida.

“I have to say my patience. I’m very patient to the hole. I’m not in such a rush to get to the hole. I let the holes develop and as soon as I see it I let my quickness get me through them.”

White’s only official offer is from Boston College, which was sent during the season. Clemson, North Carolina, Duke, UConn, and Wisconsin are also showing interest. White discussed what he is looking for in each of these schools showing interest.

“First off the academics, that’s the first thing I’m looking at most. Also a place where I have a good relationship with the coaching staff, and the amount of playing time I’m getting as a freshman. I really want to go to a place I can play as a freshman. I’m really open to any place right now though.”

White plans on attending the Under Armour Junior Combine being held at Dolphin Practice Facility in Davie February 15.
