Whigham Sets a Pair of Visits

There are plenty of talented players that fly under the recruiting radar in south Florida each class, including the jack-of-all-trades at Southridge, Lavaughn Whigham. The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder lined up at dazzled wide receiver, cornerback, and as a return man for the Spartans this season earning himself a spot on SoFLAfootball’s All-Underrated Team.

While BCS schools have been snooping around Whigham all season, none had invited him up on a visit. That changed recently, as one Big East school is flying Whigham in for an official visit.

“I am visiting Louisville this weekend,” said Whigham. “They haven’t offered yet but hopefully they offer on my visit Friday.”

It should not come as much of a surprise the Cardinals entered the fray considering new head coach Charlie Strong and many of his assistants came from the University of Florida. It was at the Swamp in Gainesville this summer where Whigham impressed Gator assistants so much, he was invited up into the football offices to meet with coaches. Something only a small fraction of the hundreds of campers are able to earn. One of those assistants he met that hot June day in the Swamp, came calling for Whigham.

“They started recruiting about 2 weeks ago,” explained Whigham. “When Coach Bedford, the defensive back coach at Florida became the Defensive Coordinator at Louisville he contacted me.”

While Louisville has had a bit of a hot streak in South Florida recently, Marshall made headlines last week with several commitments from South Florida. They too are looking to name Whigham.

“I am supposed to visit Marshall on January 29th,” said Whigham.

Central Michigan was the first school to offer Whigham, and many believed he was a Chippewa commit. The coaching change at CMU and new schools showing interest, that is not the case.

“I am not committed to any school right now.”

With signing day fast approaching and a couple visits scheduled, that should change soon.
