Dubose Talks Offers & Interest
February 2, 2010 by Luke Stampini
Arguably, the top prospect in Broward County for the 2011 class resides at Northeast High School with defensive end Bryant Dubose. The 6-foot-4, 245-pound Dubose is still relatively new to the game of football, but his knack for pressuring the quarterback is impressive. So impressive, he has landed a few early offers and is getting plenty of attention from colleges.
“I’ve been offered by West Virginia, Rutgers, and FIU,” said Dubose. “University of Miami recently told me they were getting ready to offer me.”
While Dubose has not received any recent offers, there has been a steady stream of colleges stopping by Northeast’s campus over the past couple months keeping close tabs on the talented junior.
“I haven’t been offered by any new schools lately, but FSU, UM, and Nebraska, those have been the last three schools that have come out.”
Both the Hurricanes and Seminoles have made a push to get Dubose on their campuses for an unofficial visit. It looks as if a visit to Tallahassee is in the works.
“UM and FSU have been telling me to come up (for unofficial visits),” said Dubose. “Even today, FSU called the school and told our athletic director to talk to me about coming up there for a junior day in February. So I should be going to FSU soon.”
Growing up in a football crazed state that houses some of college football’s best programs over the past 20 years; one would imagine Dubose had a school he cheered for when he was younger. That was certainly not the case.
“Growing up I never really had a football team. I was never really into sports until my freshman year of high school, so I never had a college I rooted for. Now I like UM, USC, and I like Tennessee a lot.”
Rooting interest aside, Dubose feels he is a great pass rusher with good speed coming off the edge and help whatever school he picks. This offseason he would like to improve on that speed as well as every other facet of his game.
“I’d like to get my speed up and get stronger,” explained Dubose. “I don’t know I have a lot to work on, I think I can be way better next year than I was this year, speed, strength, fundamentals, everything.”
Dubose plans to attend several camps and combines this offseason.
