Holliman Claims ACC Offer
March 1, 2010 by Luke Stampini
There are several talented safeties throughout South Florida, but look for Southridge’s Gerod Holliman to make a legitimate case for the top prospect at the position in Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties. The 6-foot, 190-pound playmaker has been hearing from a host of colleges.
“Louisville, Florida, Florida State, Kansas State, Tennessee, Tennessee State, and Wisconsin,” rattled off Holliman.
None of the schools listed has extended offers to Holliman to date. Sunday Holliman spoke to coaches at Maryland, and claimed the Terps are his first offer.
“They said they are sending me an offer,” said Holliman on his conversation with Maryland.
It should be the first of many for the talented 2011 safety. Holliman finished the season with four interceptions, returning two back for touchdowns. Holliman played both free and strong safety this past fall, and feels he can do a little bit of everything at safety.
“I like to stop the run basically. I can cover, and I like to play zone. Most of the time I can tell where the quarterback is going before the play starts.”
Last week Holliman also participated in the Under Armour Combine at the Dolphins’ practice facility in Davie. The combine featured several top players from the area and tested each athlete in a series of different workouts.
“I thought I did good, I was just having fun basically,” said Holliman. “I did bad in the forty, I slipped at the starting line, but I ran a 4.6.”
This offseason Holliman is focusing on dropping that forty time by running track and also looking to add more muscle mass.
“I’m running track so I can get faster, so I can be in the 4.3 category. Then, basically lift weights to get stronger.”
Holliman will be participating in the New Level Athletics 7-on-7 on the campus of USF later this month.
