Jean Louis Makes Statement

February 15, 2010 by Luke Stampini

It was nearly 12 months ago when Kelvin Benjamin of Glades Central, a sophomore at the time, gave a glimpse of his talents at a SoFLAfootball 7-on-7 Showcase. At this Sunday’s SoFLAfootball 7-on-7 Showcase, sophomore Angelo Jean Louis from Palm Beach Central made a huge impression on the event, proving he will be one of the top prospects in the 2012 class.

“It was great,” said Jean Louis on the showcase. “I didn’t expect it to have as many good players out there. The experience was nice. The DB’s were pretty good.”

The 6-foot, 180-pound receiver was physical, showed enough speed to get behind the defense, and ended his day with an array of spectacular catches. One of those spectacular catches was against the cornerback that impressed Jean Louis the most, Corey Tindall of Stranahan.

“The thing was before we went, he was just talking, telling me how I was not going to get off the line,” said Jean Louis of Tindall. “I told him to come a little closer, he came in, I gave an inside step and he went to the outside and I burned him. The quarterback threw it a little short, jump ball situation and he thought he had it, but I went up there and showed him he didn’t have it.”

Jean Louis spent most of his day at wide receiver, but also got some time in a cornerback and safety. At Palm Beach Central this fall, Jean Louis also did a little of everything for the Broncos.

“I played a little bit at wildcat quarterback, I played receiver, punt return, kick return, and I was in the slot a little bit,” said Jean Louis of his exploits this fall. “Whenever we played fast teams with fast receivers, I played corner all the time.”

It is at receiver where Jean Louis feels the most comfortable and the position he would like to play in college. The 2012 prospect discussed some parts of his game he wants to improve at that position over the next couple of years.

“I want to catch the ball in traffic more, where the safety and the corner is on me and where I’m getting bumped around and knocked up a little bit. Work more on my routes, they are pretty good, but I want them to be crisper so I run routes perfect.”

Jean Louis has former teammates and friends, Jon Bostic (2009) at the University of Florida, Shane McDermott (2010) at the University of Miami, and Peniel Jean (2010) heading to Wisconsin in the summer. What school did Jean Louis grow up rooting though?

“Growing up my parents, my mom, my dad, everyone just liked UM,” said Jean Louis. “UM was the team we would watch and go to the games and watch. I’ve always liked UM.”

There is a long way to go in the recruitment of Jean Louis, until then, sit back and enjoy the talents this impressive athlete brings to the field.
