Lamarcus Joyner Has Favorite

November 1, 2008 by Luke Stampini

Southwest Miami defensive back Lamarcus Joyner has a host of schools who have offered him. The 2010 prospect has offers from Florida, Florida State, Miami, Boston College, West Virginia, Tennessee, Central Florida, Auburn and a host of other schools. Joyner is trying to stay focused through all the recruiting hoopla.

“I got so many schools, I try not to get caught up in that,” said Joyner.

The 5-foot-8, 165-pound Joyner divulged what schools are his favorites currently.

“My top three, FSU is number one, then you got UM, and then comes UF,” said Joyner. “I like to stay in state, but I’m also considering Boston College real hard and West Virginia.”

Joyner gave some insight on why the Seminoles are his current favorite.

“I grew up as a Florida State fan, so it was like a dream come true to be offered by them and be able to go to the college.”

The Hurricane coaching staff certainly is giving Florida State a push for Joyner’s services.

“Miami, talking to the coaches, Randy Shannon and Patrick Nix, they make me feel like family,” said Joyner. “I am a Miami boy. I live down in Miami. Every time I’m there I feel part of the family and they say I can make my presence knows at UM. It would be a good fit.”

The hard hitting Joyner is in no rush to make any decisions on what school he will attend though.

“I’m going to weigh my options. Sometimes I wake up in the morning or sitting in school and people send me text wanting me to make an early commitment and stuff like that,” said Joyner. “I’m going to let me heart go where ever it wants to go. This summer get to the campuses, take my official visits, stuff like that before I make my official decision.”

Joyner is an extremely talented defensive back and will make the move to cornerback at the next level. The only knock on Joyner is his lack of ideal size for a cornerback. He certainly makes up for the lack in height with his speed, ability to change directions quickly, and a nasty attitude on the field. That nastiness on the field certainly has impressed defensive coordinators across the country. Joyner makes the game a street fight, flying around the field popping ball carriers.

Joyner and his Southwest teammates defeated Varela 25-23 this past Thursday improving the Eagles record to 7-1 on the season. Next Friday, November 7th, Joyner will be on display at Tropical Park against Braddock.
