Moore Picking Up Late Interest
January 6, 2010 by Luke Stampini
January can be an exciting month in south Florida as some of the sleeper prospects in the area start to see their recruitment heat up in the final weeks before National Signing Day. The ‘sleeper’ tag can certainly be placed on Palm Beach Lakes two-way lineman Morris Moore. The 6-foot-4, 250-pound has been receiving inquiries from a handful of schools recently.
“I got Illinois coming in on Thursday to see me, and a couple other schools like New Mexico,” said Morris. “New Mexico really wanted me to play offensive guard, and I got Western Michigan who has been talking to me, I have Middle Tennessee, they want me to come on a visit, and I’ve also been talking to Arizona State, they’re trying to get me on a visit also.”
Even though the interest in Moore has picked up, only one school has come through with an offer.
“The only one that has really offered me is New Mexico,” said Moore.
Moore, who was a member of SoFLAfootball’s All-Area Team as a defensive tackle, moved between the tackle and the end position for the Palm Beach Lakes defensive front as well as playing left tackle on offense. Moore is a little turned off by the fact the Lobos want him on the offensive side of the ball and states he wants to play defense in college.
“I actually want to play defensive end. I can play on the interior also because I just love the d-line.”
The next school to offer Moore may very well be Illinois who is sending an assistant down to eye the aggressive defensive lineman this week.
“I haven’t talked to him (the Illinois assistant), he’s coming down to see me Thursday and what I’ve heard from my coach is that he really likes me and he wants to see me,” explained Moore.
Moore is very physical when playing defensive line and spent much of his time causing havoc in opponents’ backfield. Moore talked about why he was able to make so many plays on defense.
“I got a lot of strengths. I got some moves like the swim move, I can also rip, I can also jack in, get inside, and push them back to get to the quarterback.”
Moore is a member of the National team in the Treasure Coast Outback Bowl being played at John I. Leonard High School Saturday January 9 at 7:30 p.m.
