December 22, 2009 by Luke Stampini
Monday night at Curtis Park in Miami Divine Sports Inc. put on the Miami-Dade All-Star Game dividing the county North against South. The game featured many of the under the radar prospects in Dade, giving them a chance to display their skills and talents.
The two teams were in defensive struggle most of the game and the scoring finally started as the final seconds of the first half ticked away when Miami Springs kicker Rodrigo Hernandez drilled a 33-yard field goal for the North giving them a 3-0 lead.
The South took the lead when South Dade running back Jeremy Hill busted a 41 yard touchdown run late in the third quarter making the score 7-3. The North struck back with what turned out the be the game winning score earlier in the fourth quarter when the Dr. Krop combination of quarterback Marlon Kelly hit wide receiver De’Andre Hall for a 42 yard score. That brought the score to 10-7.
The South made one last push for victory when they got a safety with 40 seconds remaining in the game cutting the lead to 10-9, and Archbishop Carroll’s Jeff Scott returned the ensuing kick all the way down to the North 25-yard line. The South fumbled away the very next play, sealing the victory for the North.
Top Performers
NORTH - Teandric Slocum (pictured) 6′1″ 180 S Carol City: Slocum was a hitting machine and let everyone on the field know it. The talented safety also came away with two interceptions on the night that thwarted two scoring opportunities for the South.
SOUTH - Darren Pinnock 6′4″ 320 OG Palmetto: Pinnock’s ability to move for a kid that big was impressive. He was a one-man wrecking ball when he would pull leading the way for South ball carriers.
NORTH - Antwan Gay 5′10″ 185 RB Hialeah-Miami Lakes: Gay was solid running the ball for the North team. He never could quite break off any long runs, but consistently chewed up yards.
SOUTH - Mike Dallas 5′11″ 200 LB Palmetto: Early in the game Dallas came on a blitz, meeting the running back in the backfield causing a fumble, which Dallas recovered. He was in on numerous tackles and gave Slocum a run for his money on most talkative player on the field.
