NUC Showcases 2012 Talent
February 21, 2010 by Luke Stampini
Saturday the Shuman’s National Underclassmen Combine (NUC) stopped by Cooper City High School, displaying what could be the next wave of stars to hit the South Florida football scene. The NUC in the past has showcases some very talented players early in their careers. Two years ago, their camp at Spanish River High School featured 2010 stars like Lamarcus Joyner and Todd Chandler. Last year at Ransom Everglades, members of the 2011 class like Wayne Lyons and Tacoi Sumler had strong performaces. Saturday’s afternoon session peered into the 2012 class a little.
The NUC featured testing in the 40-yard dash, shuttle, vertical jump, broad jump, and reps at 155 and 185 on the bench press to open the session. The second half featured position drills, and 2-on-2 drills.
Dami Ayoola RB St. Thomas Aquinas - Ayoola fits the mold of the two 2010 running backs the Raiders lost this season in James White and Giovanni Bernard. He is short, checking in at 5-foot-8.5, with a thick lower half. Ayoola came away as the running back MVP, looked good catching the ball out of the backfield, and laid down a solid 4.66 second forty.
Deon Bush S Columbus - Bush was extremely impressive today with his all around athleticism, size, and football skills. He displayed good one-on-one coverage skills, so good the option of moving over to cornerback seems plausible. Bush also recorded a 10′2″broad jump.
Larry Hope CB American - Watching Hope you could see he had a good grasp of the cornerback position. He looked very smooth during defensive back drills and was solid in coverage during the 2-on-2 portion of the day. He has an extremely slight build right now, but is far from maturing.
Kevis Jones QB Northeast - Jones has decent height measuring in at 6-foot-1.5 and carries a broad frame. Jones won the quarterback MVP with passes that had nice touch and effortless throws. He sprayed the throws a little, but certainly a solid player that should develop nicely in the coming years.
Gary Holmes RB Seminole Ridge - After watching Holmes in the fall, it was good to see Holmes in person at the combine. He is short, but he had a broader frame than expected and looks able to add much needed weight. Holmes also blazed a 4.58 second forty.
Adrian Burton CB Ely - Burton checked in at 5-foot-10, 168-pounds and looks to continue the cornerback pipeline at Blanche Ely. He registered one of the fast forty times with 4.58 seconds, and was solid in coverage.
Ryan Jonvion RB Dade Christian - Jonvion was the overall camp MVP with some eye popping testing numbers. He broad jumped 10′7″ posted a 38.5″ vertical, had a 3.99 seconds shuttle run and capped it with 4.58 seconds forty.
