Ramsey Getting Looks Too
February 17, 2010 by Luke Stampini
At Dillard High School, the defensive back receiving much of the attention is safety Wayne Lyons, but there is another talented prospect roaming the Panther secondary. The 6-foot, 160-pound Allen Ramsey has been getting interest from several colleges for his ability to play cornerback.
“I hear from Ole Miss, Rutgers, Purdue, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Western Kentucky, and Michigan State,” said Ramsey.
Ramsey’s length at corner is the intriguing part of him as a prospect as teams are looking for taller corners to combat the taller receivers.
“I use it to my advantage on a tall receiver,” said Ramsey. “I can handle them when a smaller corner probably can’t.”
His height is not the only thing Ramsey feels is an asset to his game, he says has a feel for the cornerback position as well.
“I think I excel at reading the quarterback and baiting him up and making him throw interceptions,” said Ramsey. “Playing a lot of man-to-man, up close, I like to be physical.”
As a prospect with no offers in hand yet, Ramsey feels the month of May will be crucial for his recruitment. The month marks the start of spring football practice in the state of Florida and is in the heart of the spring evaluation period for college coaches to be out on the road.
” It’s going to be the most important spring ever. A couple coaches came to our spring practices, but this year we are suppose to have a big recruiting class. A lot of us are going to sign this year, I just want to make sure we have our grades right, have our test scores done.”
When it is time to decide on a college, Ramsey knows what he is looking for in the university he chooses.
“I want from a program some tradition, campus lifestyle, television exposure are the things that mean a lot to me.”
Ramsey will be participating in the National Underclassmen Combine this weekend at Cooper City High School.
