Randall Runs to Offers
November 23, 2009 by Luke Stampini
Chaminade-Madonna 2011 quarterback Jerrard Randall almost single handedly ended the reign of Pahokee over the 2B class Friday night. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Randall sprinted his way to 224 yards rushing and four touchdown runs of 79, 31, 65, and 2 yards on the night that saw Pahokee routed 35-0. A shoulder injury to Randall the week previous caused the Lions to rely on his feet more than his arm against the once mighty Blue Devils.
“We just had to run it, I can throw but not the way I wanted to,” said Randall. “I kind of feel good about it (beating the state power). It’s Pahokee, defending state champions.”
The talented junior has gotten it done both on the ground and through the air this fall for the Lions. Randall has rushed 69 times for 674 yards and 15 touchdowns on the year, while he has completed 64 of 124 passes for a total of 1261 yards and 15 touchdowns to five interceptions.
Randall, a great athlete as shown by his performance rushing versus Pahokee, still has some work to do before becoming a polished passer in the pocket, but he does have one of the strongest arms in South Florida.
“I can throw, I got a strong arm that’s like my strength,” explained Randall. “I kind of want to work on my footwork a little bit though.”
Randall’s athleticism and strong arm have caught the eye of many colleges already, several of which Randall claims to have offered already.
“Florida State, Oregon, FIU, UCF, West Virginia, and I’m being looked at by Ohio State and Florida. The first ones I said offered me. Florida and Ohio State are just looking at me.”
Though it still is early in the process, Randall has a good idea of what he would like in the program he decides to choose sometime down the road.
“I want at least a chance to start my freshman year, at least a chance to start. I look for the type of offense they run, what plans they have for the quarterbacks, and the academic programs.”
This week Chaminade-Madonna continues on their quest for a state title when they travel to North Broward Prep Friday night. Randall talked about what he and his teammates have to do to continue their winning ways this season.
“Just work hard. Everybody stays focused at school. We go to church before every game and everybody gets focused.”
