SoFLA Recruiting Quick Hitters
November 30, 2009 by Luke Stampini
The season has ended for many high schools and colleges, so there will be a slew of activity over the next couple months leading up to signing day. Here are a few notes SoFLAfootball has gathered over the long holiday weekend.
-Palm Beach Lakes safety Johnnie Simon will be taking an official visit to Western Michigan the weekend of December 4.
-With the season ending for many universities, look for numerous schools be down visiting South Florida to make the final push for 2010 prospects they have offered, deliver new offers to some 2010 prospects, and to start focusing on the 2011 class as well. One of those 2010 prospects to land a new offer is Glades Central cornerback Tavares Crawford. Syracuse told him they would visit him this week.
-Northwestern offensive lineman Torrian Wilson committed to Stanford back in September. Wilson still claims to be open and has only set up visits to Michigan in December and Tennessee in January.
-The coaching staff at Virginia has been let go and the writing is on the wall that the staff at Notre Dame will change as well. Belen Jesuit safety Pablo Alvarez has been committed to Virginia since the summer and Notre Dame has St. Thomas Aquinas running back Giovanni Bernard committed. Bernard has stated he still plans to stick with Notre Dame, but coaching changes can cause a flurry of recruiting activity.
-South Plantation cornerback Khari Burke will be on an official visit to Central Michigan starting December 4th. According to Burke he will fly into Detroit, Michigan to meet up with the CMU team, who play in the MAC Championship game against Ohio that day there, and Burke will ride back to CMU’s campus with the team following the game.
-Small chatter has been circulating in Pahokee for several weeks about wide receiver De’Joshua Johnson’s commitment to Florida State. Johnson said he plans to take visits, and left the door for a change slightly open. With the amount of de-commitments from athletes in the Muck, it is something to note. Johnson was at the USF-Miami game this past weekend.
-Delray Beach Atlantic wide receiver James Louis committed to Florida before flipping over to Ohio State before the season started. Louis has stated that Florida is still trying to sway him back, and there was a small possibility he would be in Gainesville this past weekend for the UF-FSU game. When talking with Louis, he mentioned wanting to be All-Big Ten in a couple years, giving the impression his mind is on the Buckeyes.
