SoFLA’s All-Underrated Team

January 19, 2010 by Luke Stampini

The amount of talent is so deep in South Florida year in and year out, that there are often numerous talented prospects that slide under the radar of most BCS schools for various reasons. SoFLAfootball has compiled its All-Underrated Team for 2010 to highlight a few of the players that are not getting the recognition they deserve.

DEFENSE

CB Richard Leonard Killian - Leonard may not have the ideal height, but he has electrifying speed, sticks to wide receivers like glue, and more than willing to lay a hit on a ball carrier.

S Johnnie Simon Palm Beach Lakes - Simon is an ideal safety with combination of impressive tackles, sound coverage skills, and quick reactions in the secondary.

S Teandric Slocum Carol City - Slocum is a highlight reel hit waiting to happen. When Slocum hits you, not only are you sure to feel it, he’s sure to let you know about it as well.

CB Khari Burke South Plantation - Burke is another corner knocked for his lack of height, but he is a lock down corner that throws his body around as well.

LB Michael Dallas Palmetto - Dallas was the most impressive linebacker in South Florida this past fall. His speed from the linebacker position was unmatched.

LB Layton Haynes Dwyer - Haynes played a little of everything for Dwyer this fall, but he always made plays no matter where he lined up. Haynes capped off his season with an astounding state title game against Niceville.

LB Garth Jobb St. Thomas Aquinas - Simply put Jobb is a football player that just gets the job done. His athleticism is surprising and he plays with intelligence on the field.

DL Ken Shaw Dwyer - Shaw was another player that stepped up in the state title game. He made his share of plays all season for the Panthers’ stout defense, and he has good size and athleticism.

DL Morris Moore Palm Beach Lakes - Moore moves from defensive tackle to defensive end depending on the situation. He brings a nasty attitude to the defensive side of the ball.

DL Isaiah Corbett Glades Central - Corbett helped set the tone for the Raider defense this fall and was good for a couple big plays per game.

DL Matthew Stokes St. Thomas Aquinas - Stokes is a high-energy player who has a motor that never stops. He fueled the Raider defensive line.

OFFENSE

QB Leron Thomas Glades Central - Thomas led an impressive Raider aerial assault this season. He has good mobility and throws an impressive deep ball.

RB Jarvis Bridge Coral Gables - Bridge was the Cavs lone offensive weapon, and despite being the focus of each defense he faced, he still produced leading Dade County in rushing. He has the speed to score from anywhere on the field as well.

RB Edward Smith Southwest - Smith runs with some juice and has the ability to break of exciting runs. Once he finds a hole, he explodes and gets to top speed quickly.

WR Lavaughn Whigham Southridge - Whigham is another multi-talented athlete that can do a bit of everything, but he may be at his best playing wide receiver. He has a good combination of size and speed.

WR Tefsa Samuels Ft. Lauderdale - Samuels is another receiver with good size and speed, but he also has a natural feel for the receiver position. He excels on the vertical routes where he’s able to use his height to and athleticism to his favor.

WR J.J. Worton South Dade - Worton lines up everywhere for the Bucs including handing punt returns, kicking/punting responsibilities as well as playing safety. As a wide receiver though, Worton shows good hands, good speed, and the ability to get open.

OL Darren Pinnock Palmetto - Pinnock is massive player that moves well. He is at his best as a pulling guard.

OL Shawn Brown Miami Central - Brown was the anchor of a Rocket offensive line that open up holes for their running backs while also providing sufficient time for the quarterback.

OL David Delsoin Sheridan Hills Christian - This physically imposing offensive lineman is just learning the game, but his size and athleticism is astounding.

OL Charles Dowdy Dwyer - Dowdy was impressive all season and a key component to a solid Dwyer offensive line.

OL Justin McCray Southridge - McCray has good size and performs well in pass protection or run blocking.

ATH Jermaine Kelson Southridge - Watching Kelson with the ball in his hands is well worth the price of admission. There may not be a faster player on the field in South Florida than Kelson.
