SoFLA’s Top 100 for 2010
June 4, 2009 by Luke Stampini
SoFLAfootball has compiled a list of the top 100 prospects from Palm Beach, Broward, and Dade Counties coming out of spring football. Each athlete on the list has been seen in person during a game, camp, combine, or 7-on-7 event. Today we bring you prospects #31-#100 as we brought you #1-#30 (HERE) earlier this week.
31. Jakhari Gore - 5′9″ 165 RB - Miami Columbus: Gore has great speed and has the ability explode through the slightest opening. His rail thin build is a concern at the next level.
32. Gerald Christian - 6′3″ 220 TE - Dwyer: Christian is a big body that moves well. He proves tough to bring down once he has the ball in his hands. Christian may outgrow tight end once in college.
33. Cody Riggs - 5′9″ 165 CB - St. Thomas Aquinas: Riggs is a true cover corner that spends most of his time on an island with a receiver. He has blazing speed, but his height is not ideal.
34. Ravonne Carter - 5′11″ 170 CB - Hialeah: Carter has a long body and moves very well. He likes to mix it up with the receivers and may be the most underrated defensive back in South Florida.
35. Jermaine Barton - 6′5″ 275 OT - St. Thomas Aquinas: Barton is a huge physically and looks like a big time offensive tackle prospect. He is very mobile for a prospect his size, but he lacks the quality technique needed to be a national recruit. Barton’s improvement from the state championship game in December to now is eye popping.
36. Gideon Ajagbe - 6′2″ 210 ATH - Ranson Everglades: Ajagbe may be the best athlete in all of South Florida. He should find a home at linebacker in college.
37. David Perry - 6′6″ 225 DE/TE - University: Perry is big, long, and moves fairly well. He has only played one year of football and this spring worked out at tight end. Perry has a lot of upside and is another candidate to really pack on the pounds once in a college weight program.
38. Cliff Coleman - 5′10″ 175 CB - Boyd Anderson: Coleman has long arms and a sturdy build. He has excellent speed on the field and plays a position of need.
39. Tony Grimes - 6′0″ 170 DB - Hollywood Hills: Grimes is a versatile prospect with the ability to play cornerback or safety at the next level. He tends to grab too much and his forty time was not overly impressive, but Grimes brings some tenacity to the field.
40. Cassius McDowell - 5′9″ 165 RB - Deerfield Beach: McDowell is electric with the ball in his hands and displays great speed on the football field. He is effective catching the ball out of the backfield and can line up in the slot as well.
41. Tavares Crawford - 5′10″ 175 CB - Glades Central: A very little used defensive back for the Raiders last season, Crawford proved to be one of the top corners in South Florida this off-season. He runs well and has a lot of schools are waiting to see senior film. Crawford does a good job getting physical with receivers at the line of scrimmage.
42. Merrill Noel - 5′9″ 175 DB - Pahokee: Noel can flat out run and is not afraid to mix it up on the field. He plays more of a strong safety role for the Blue Devils, but will be asked to play cornerback in college.
43. Joshua Reese - 5′11″ 170 WR - Miami Central: Reese runs very good routes and has a knack for finding openings in defenses. He is not the fastest or biggest, but is a very effective receiver on the field.
44. Michaelee Harris 6′0″ 175 WR - Miami Northwestern: Harris is a solid receiver that has shown the ability to beat defenses deep. You would like to see Harris step up as a go to receiver this fall before moving him up the rankings.
45. Jonathan Feliciano - 6′4″ 295 OL - Western: Feliciano is a big body that shows some aggressiveness. Feliciano missed the spring with a foot injury.
46. Shane McDermott - 6′3″ 265 OL - Palm Beach Central: McDermott explodes off the ball and delivers a pop. He is a very aggressive player on the field.
47. Demar Dorsey - 6′2″ 180 S - Boyd Anderson: Dorsey can flat out run and cover a lot of ground from his safety position. His tall, athletic frame is ideal for a free safety.
48. Jabari Price - 5′11″ 170 CB - Pompano Ely: Price is good in coverage, has good size, and logged a 4.50 second electronic forty. Price comes from a school that has produced solid cornerbacks in recent years.
49. Jeff Scott - 5′7″ 165 RB - Archbishop Carroll: Scott is a speed demon on the football field, and always a threat for a big play. He is still learning the finer points of being a running back, but is a big time return man.
50. Leron Thomas - 6′1″ 180 QB - Glades Central: Thomas is the most underrated quarterback prospect in South Florida. His mechanics are bad, but he gets the ball where it needs to be. Thomas can buy time with his feet, and with proper coaching at the next level could turn into the steal of the class.
51. Dareyon Chance - 5′5″ 155 RB - Cardinal Gibbons: Chance catches the ball and runs routes like a receiver. He is very effective in the open field, and is a tough runner even with his small stature.
52. Dion Hanks - 5′10″ 175 CB - Miami Edison: Hanks is a very muscular prospect that gets very physical with receivers. He is good in coverage and supports the run well.
53. Brian Robinson - 6′0″ 190 S/OLB - St. Thomas Aquinas: Robinson makes a lot of plays on the field, but it is unclear if he sticks at safety in college or moves to an outside linebacker spot.
54. Johnnie Simon - 6′0″ 175 S - Palm Beach Lakes: Simon is an underrated prospect that is used as an outside linebacker for PBL. He has the speed, agility, and coverage skills allow him to play safety at the next level. Simon is a physical prospect that enjoys turning the football game into a street fight.
55. Vincent Mauro - 6′1″ 220 LB - St. Thomas Aquinas: Mauro is a prototypical inside backer. He has a very thick build, and has a nose for the ball.
56. Clive Walford - 6′6″ 225 TE - Glades Central: Walford is in his first year playing football coming over from the basketball court, but there is no denying his physical gifts. At 225-pounds he will add plenty more weight in college, and has good athleticism.
57. Eluzies Vil - 6′0″ 220 MLB - Delray Beach Atlantic: Vil has a sturdy build and does a good job stuffing the run. His has tackle to tackle speed.
58. Zachary Allen - 6′2″ 190 TE/DE/LB - Pahokee: Allen is very long and athletic. A move to outside linebacker from his defensive end position is most likely in college.
59. Ricky Joseph - 6′1″ 300 DT - Miami Northwestern: Joseph is a space eater along the defensive line. He has a great motor and really gets after it on the field. Joseph is not a polished defensive tackle yet.
60. Willis Bowles- 6′3″ 285 OG - Pahokee: Bowles is a big body that is an aggressive run blocker. He has the potential to add plenty more weight.
61. Pablo Alvarez - 6′2″ 180 DB/LB - Belen: Great athlete that plays a multitude of positions on the field. The consensus is Alvarez find a home at safety at the next level.
62. James Potts - 6′1″ 190 RB - American Heritage-Delray: Potts is a big back that has surprising speed. He shows the ability to find a hole and power through it.
63. Ralph Williams - 6′1″ 215 LB - Gulliver Prep: Williams has good straight line speed and makes plenty of plays on the field. The transition from defensive end in high school to linebacker in college is a concern. Williams needs to improve his agility as well.
64. Robert Clark - 5′9″ 170 CB - Dwyer: Clark has blazing speed on the field and is used in a variety of ways. If cornerback does not work out for Clark a move to offense is sensible.
65. Delvin Jones - 6′5″ 225 TE/DE - Miami Palmetto: Jones is a physically impressive looking prospect and runs very well for his size. Not sure he has the mentality to be a pass rusher, so tight end is probably his best fit.
66. Isaiah Williams - 6′1″ 190 WR/DB - Monsignor Pace: Williams is yet another versatile prospect that could play on either side of the ball in college. He has just reached the tip of the iceberg physically, and will really fill out in college.
67. Eddie Sullivan - 6′0″ 190 QB - Boca Raton: Sullivan can spin it and make all the throws. He has enough speed to get himself out of trouble, but his lack of ideal height is a concern. Sullivan has added a lot of muscle to his frame this off-season.
68. Reynaldo Kirton - 6′2″ 180 S - St. Thomas Aquinas: Kirton is the unsung prospect in the STA defensive backfield, but one that makes a good number of plays. He possesses good size, nice speed, and is excellent in the classroom.
69. Marcus Thompson - 6′2″ 220 RB - Boyd Anderson: Thompson has the build that is ready to take the pounding running backs receive at the next level. He seems to never tire, and has decent speed for his size.
70. Justin Wilson - 6′0″ 220 LB - Western: Wilson looks the part of a college linebacker and has good straight line speed. He tends to drop his head and leave his feet too much, causing him to miss too many tackles.
71. D.J. McCellion - 6′0″ 290 DT - Delray Beach Atlantic: McCellion does a good job getting penetration with his quick get off and strength.
72. Donald Senat - 6′1″ 250 OL - Miami Northwestern: Senat does a good job using his leverage to stymie defensive linemen. His lack of height is a concern.
73. Normando Harris - 6′0″ 175 CB - Monsignor Pace: Harris is a three sport athlete (wrestling and track the others) that has good mobility and great size for a cornerback. Once he focuses on football year round he could really flourish.
74. Garrett Smith - 5′9″ 165 CB - Cardinal Gibbons: Smith does a good job in coverage and has good speed. He struggles at times in run support.
75. Khari Burke - 5′9″ 165 CB - South Plantation: Though undersized Burke is very good in coverage.
76. Corvin Lamb - 5′10″ 180 RB - Miami Northwestern: Lamb is a great return man, but has yet to show he is a top notch running back due to a lack of reps.
77. Darnell Kirkwood - 5′9″ 190 RB - Delray Beach Atlantic: Kirkwood is a physical runner that wears defenses down.
78. Jayvon Wrentz - 6′0″ 175 WR - Miami Booker T. Washington: Wrentz gets up to top speed quickly and does a good job finding openings for his quarterback to get him the ball.
79. Deven Drane - 5′11″ 175 DB - Plantation: Drane is another prospect that could play safey or cornerback at the next level. He shows good ball and coverage skills in the defensive backfield.
80. Michael Dozier - 6′2″ 300 DT - Homestead: Dozier is very quick off the ball for being such a massive prospect. He has good strength as well.
81. Demetrius Pettway - 5′11″ 180 DB - Homestead: Pettway has good size and speed from his safety position. He could also get a look at cornerback at the next level as well.
82. Peniel Jean - 5′10″ 175 S - Palm Beach Central: Jean makes vicious hits on the field and does a pretty good job in coverage.
83. Travis Bell - 6′1″ 175 S - Glades Central: Bell has good size, speed, and agility for a safety. He needs to be more consistent in games however.
84. Mark Leal - 5′11″ 185 QB - Delray Beach Atlantic: Leal throws the ball with great touch and excels at the vertical passing game. He needs to become more consistent with the intermediate routes.
85. Gareef Gashen - 5′11″ 175 CB - Carol City: Gashen has good size for a cornerback and impressive speed. He needs to continue improving his technique in coverage.
86. Doral Willis - 6′0″ 320 DT - Pahokee: Willis is able to get penetration or just eat up space in the middle of the defensive line.
87. Marcus Fairley - 6′0″ 210 LB - Miami Central: Fairley throws his body around on the field and delivers a blow when he makes a tackle. He does a good job stuffing the run from tackle to tackle.
88. Zachery Soto - 6′6″ 250 OT - Monsignor Pace: Soto is a very sound lineman that has the height and long arms. His has narrow shoulders and there are questions if he can add the weight needed to be an elite level offensive lineman.
89. Desmond Bozman - 6′0″ 215 LB - Dillard: Bozman does a good job controlling the middle of the field, tackle to tackle.
90. Perry Meiklejohn - 6′3″ 315 OL - Westminster Christian: Meiklejohn moves his feet well, but still needs to slim down a bit.
91. Shawn Brown - 6′1″ 320 C/G - Miami Central: Brown is a wide body that does a good job controlling the middle of the offensive line. He has good feet for a kid that big.
92. Kendall Montgomery - 6′6″ 230 TE - Monsignor Pace: Montgomery made the move to the offensive side of the ball this off-season and looks to have found a home. He is yet another physically big and athletic tight end in South Florida.
93. Jared Dangerfield - 6′1″ 175 WR - Royal Palm Beach: Dangerfield has very good hands and the size to be a very good possession receiver. He is a long strider, but his speed is good enough to get open.
94. Doug Almender - 6′3″ 290 OL - North Miami: Almender has a big body and moves fairly well. He brings a mean attitude to the field.
95. Khambrel McGhee - 5′8″ 160 CB - Miami Northwestern: McGhee is good in coverage and does a good job throwing his body around on run support. He is also a special team’s demon on coverage teams.
96. Ken Shaw - 6′3″ 210 TE - Dwyer: Shaw has filled out nicely since last fall and is fairly athletic.
97. Jose Jose - 6′2″ 340 G/C - Miami Central: Jose moves well for his size and can handle some of the top linemen in South Florida. He needs to slim down to be effective at the next level.
98. Venson Mercellon - 6′1″ 260 DT - Stranahan: Mercellon explodes off the ball and can be tough to handle in the middle. He has a tendency to take plays off, which may be due to the fact he plays both ways.
99. Fred Pickett - 5′9″ 170 WR - Pahokee: Pickett has good speed, runs good routes, and has pretty good hands. He needs to up his on field production though.
100. Hosey Williams - 5′7″ 175 RB - Southridge: Williams runs hard and can cut up field quickly. Though short he has a very sturdy build.
