USC Trojans Offer Ash

July 3, 2009 by Luke Stampini

Pahokee defensive tackle Richard Ash may check his email more often these days. The 6-foot-3, 275-pound Ash was giving instructions via email to call USC Head Coach Pete Carroll by the Trojans’ Defensive line coach Jethro Franklin, problem is Ash did not check his email for a couple days. The lines of communication are all open now though.

“Coach Franklin said Coach Carroll wanted to talk to me,” said Ash. “So I called Coach Carroll the next day, he was just saying I worked on my grades and they got better so he was going to go ahead and offer me.”

The offer from the Trojans has been on the mind of Ash for several months, as he and Coach Franklin have built up a strong relationship since the two first started talking.

“I’m happy, I’ve been waiting a long time for this,” said Ash. “Coach Franklin said ‘I told you I would get you.’”

After the Florida Gators, Ash’s top school for several months, where does USC rank with the new offer?

“I put them at my top. They’re a big time program, a lot of people getting drafted from their school the past couple years.”

Many have felt once he landed the two offers he wanted, USC and Florida, it would not take long for Ash to make his decision. For now, Ash has a timeline of when he wants to make an announcement.

“Some of my teammates are talking about committing before the Northwestern game (August 28). I think I will too.”

Ash had an unofficial visit to FIU this morning, but it was cancelled due to scheduling conflict with Head Coach Mario Cristobal.
