Wright Gets Big Ten Looks

One 2010 running back in South Florida that the attention he deserves is Taravella’s Devon Wright. The 6-foot, 190-pound Wright has led Broward County in rushing the past two seasons, but he still is an afterthought for many fans when discussing South Florida’s running backs.

“It doesn’t really bother me at all,” said Wright of buzz that surrounds his name. “I’m a humble person, I don’t brag that much about anything. If people underrate me it doesn’t matter, because the thing is I’m just trying to do good for myself.”

A few of Wright’s offers to date include Boston College, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Purdue, UConn, Troy, and Minnesota. Wright has not started to rank his choices, but he feels a couple of schools are recruiting him the hardest.

“Troy is recruiting me hard, Troy and UConn both,” said Wright.

It’s no surprise numerous Big Ten programs are vying for Wright’s services, since his running style suits the power running conference. .

“I’m mostly a downhill runner, I make people miss a lot, and I get tough yardage,” said Wright.

That is not all he can do, proving this spring he can be a threat in the passing game as well. He snagged three balls for over 100 yards and two touchdowns in the spring game. Taravella also threw a new wrinkle in their offense by splitting Wright out as a receiver during the spring game.

“We had to try something new this year,” explained Wright. “They moved me out to slot, it’s really not that much. We did it basically so the defense will focus on me most of the time, then we can throw the ball away from me.”

Despite the new wrinkle of having Wright work from the slot, look for him to once again lead the county in rushing for the 2009 season.
