Benjamin Breaks Out

June 5, 2009 by Luke Stampini

Glades Central’s 2011 wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin started making a name for himself this off-season and it all culminated with a rather impressive performance in the Raider’s spring game against Miami Central. The 6-foot-6, 210-pound Benjamin came away with 7 catches for 131 yards and two touchdowns.

“It went alright for me, I had fun,” said Benjamin of spring football. “It made our team better. I made a lot of improvements from last year.”

Those improvements along with his size have put Benjamin on the radar for several universities including Tennessee, Florida, Miami, and FIU. This summer look for Benjamin to visit at least one in-state power.

“I’m supposed to go up to Florida State Camp in July, but other than that I got to talk to my coach,” said Benjamin.

While working out this summer, and attending camps Benjamin wants to work on his speed, route running, and continuing to improve his hands.

It is early in the recruiting process for Benjamin and sounds to be open to all schools.

“To tell you the truth I really don’t have any favorites because I don’t really know any of the schools,” explained Benjamin. “Playing video games I play with Georgia, the (Southern California) Trojans, and Miami, but I really don’t have a favorite team.”

Benjamin also discussed what he feels he brings to the field as a receiver.

“Basically my size, I like using my body holding off defenders. Most teams will struggle with that. My route running has improved, so I think I bring a lot to the table.”
