Chaminade vs. St. Andrew’s
August 31, 2009 by Luke Stampini
Friday Night SoFLAfootball took in some small school action as Chaminade-Madonna traveled to St. Andrew’s.
C-M was too much for St. Andrew’s to handle jumping out to a 28-3 lead at halftime before making wholesale substitutions.
******CHAMINADE-MADONNA******
Curt Evans (pictured) 2011 WR 5′11″ 170: Evans dominated the first half of play, racking up three touchdowns in impressive fashion. First, a run in which he weaved his way through the defense for a 27-yard score followed by two deep touchdown catches of 60 and 39 yards. Evans has good speed and is elusive with the ball in his hands.
Jarrard Randall 2011 QB/ATH 6′2″ 185: Randall has a strong arm and runs well, but has a ways to go to become a complete quarterback. He waited too long to long to throw several deep balls on the night, causing the ball the fall incomplete instead of going for big gains. If Randall can speed up his decision making process a bit, he has the physical attributes to be a good quarterback prospect. Randall’s development as a quarterback will be something to watch this fall. He did break off some long runs, so athletically it appears he can play another position of quarterback does not work out.
Others of Note: Demitri Beal 2010 CB, Orlando David 2012 WR/QB
************ST. ANDREW’S************
Gary Gladden 2012 WR/S 6′0″ 185: Gladden has good size, decent speed, and made his share of plays on the night. He took a screen 60 yards on offense and looked good playing free safety during his limited time on defense. How Gladden develops physically over the next couple of years will determine what position and side of the ball is best for him.
Brandon Powell 2014 CB/WR 5′5″ 120: Powell is only in the 8th grade and the smallest player on the field, but he was not afraid to throw his body around making tackles. He runs well, has the right mentality to play the game, and expect him to get bigger over the years. Powell rarely comes off the field for the Scots seeing time on defense, offense and special teams.
Others of Note: Chris Gioia 2010 LB, Blake Mulligan 2012 DE, Cameron Crage 2011 QB
