Dwyer vs. Pahokee
September 19, 2009 by Luke Stampini
Friday night two of Palm Beach County’s top teams, Pahokee and Dwyer, met at Anquan Boldin for what many thought would be a showdown.
Dwyer turned the game into a rout in the second half, helped by two defensive touchdowns. Dwyer cruised to a 34-6 victory.
********DWYER********
Curt Maggitt (pictured) 2011 DE 6′3″ 205: There may not be a better pass rusher in South Florida than Maggitt, regardless of class this season. He certainly is the quickest off the ball, and does a good job using his hands to fight off blockers. Maggitt was the star of the Dwyer defense with his constant pressure on the quarterback. While Maggitt’s weight is still a little light, he is probably 15-20 pounds heavier from a season ago and still filling out.
Robert Clark 2010 WR/CB 5′9″ 170: The forgotten man at Dwyer, Clark had a long catch to get the ball inside the red zone, and then followed it up with a drag route for a touchdown. That was it for Clark on offense, but it was enough to give his team a lead and confidence they could beat Pahokee. On defense, Clark played well and stuck with Pahokee’s Chris Dunkley much of the night.
Mike Ruiz 2010 WR/DB 5′8″ 155: Ruiz came up with two interceptions, one he returned for a touchdown. The INT returned for a touchdown swung the momentum to Dwyer’s side to open the second half and the floodgates opened from there. Ruiz is undersized, but his speed is something to be respected on both sides of the ball.
Keith Bowers 2011 DL/OL 6′1″ 230: Bowers has sprouted since a season ago, adding a couple more inches to his height. He played well on both sides of the ball with a lot of emotion. Bowers is yet another defensive lineman for Dwyer that has to be respected. He was able to get penetration several times as well, and he does make a nice tandem with Maggitt.
Others of Note: Shawn McClaine 2011 CB, Matt Elam 2010 RB, The entire offensive line
**********PAHOKEE**********
Fred Pickett 2010 WR 5′9″ 160: On a night when Pahokee did not have many bright spots, Pickett had a heck of a game. He hauled in five passes for nearly 130 yards and a touchdown. Pickett showed off his speed tonight, as well as his ability to go up for the catch.
Others of Note: Antonio Ford 2010 DT, Richard Ash 2010 DT
