Harris Works on Speed, Agility

July 20, 2009 by Luke Stampini

Monsignor Pace cornerback and wide receiver Normondo Harris is a three sport athlete participating in wrestling and track outside the football season. This summer, Harris is taking his training to a new level to prepare him for another year of three sports working out with Trainers ‘R’ Us and their speed coach Mario Smith four days a week.

“We just work on technique, we build strength, and work on endurance,” said Harris of the Trainers ‘R’ Us workouts. “It’s all about making us faster. I really like it, because I feel it’s working already.”

At 6-foot, 175-pounds Harris is an intriguing prospect at cornerback in the 2010 class, and feels the summer sessions with Coach Smith will only making him a better cornerback.

“It will make me more mobile. We work on a lot of agility also and that will help me a lot at cornerback.”

Harris does not have any official offers to date, but named schools he is currently hearing from.

“Purdue, getting a lot of talk from Western Michigan, Middle Tennessee State and Marshall,” said Harris.

Harris recently spoke with Purdue offensive coordinator Gary Nord, and feels an offer could be on the way from the Boilermakers.

“He was talking about official visits and everything. All he had to do was send the film to the head coach and get the ok.”

When it comes down to picking a school this February, Harris has a few items he would like in the program he chooses.

“I want a school that has what I want to major in (Architecture Design) first of all. If I can get a little bit of playing time my freshman year and start my sophomore year, that would be good. It’s just not about the school, it’s about location too. I don’t want to be in the middle of nowhere or too cold.”

The 2009 version of the Monsignor Pace Spartans have many talented players, and look to make some noise in the post season. It will not be easy with Gulliver Prep, Pahokee, and Bolles all in the same class as the Spartans now.

“Coach put a hard schedule together so we can be prepared. We don’t really have an easy schedule, this year we don’t even have a bye week. We have a team that has been together for four years now, so we have a lot of chemistry built. I don’t think anybody can really stop us if we stay together.”
