Look Out for Lyons

This off-season Dillard 2011 prospect Wayne Lyons put on a nice display during the spring camp and combine circuit. Lyons, who played linebacker this past fall for Dillard, received the Defensive Skills MVP and the Miami National Underclassmen Combine and the Maxwell Award or camp MVP at the Football University camp in Miami.

“I try to do the best I can at the different camps,” said the 5-foot-11, 180-pound Lyons. “I try to stand out at the camps really.”

Lyons logged a 4.5 second forty at the NUC and feels this upcoming season is a significant one for his recruitment.

“It’s an important part of my high school career,” explained Lyons. “My junior year I really got to stand out and hopefully the scouts love me.”

At least one coach has been in contact with Lyons, Stanford running back coach Willie Taggart.

“He’s just telling me to keep focused, keep working hard, and keep him updated on everything I’m doing,” said Lyons.

This season at Dillard Manny Martin took over the reigns of head coach. Martin and his staff may have a position change for Lyons on the Dillard defense.

“The new coaching staff is thinking about moving me to safety. I think it would be a good fit for me. Everyone says I could be a premier safety in college because of my size and speed.”

Dillard hosts Miami Norland May 29th in their spring game to wrap up spring football.
