Miami Springs vs. Palmetto

August 28, 2009 by Luke Stampini

Miami Springs faced off with Palmetto Thursday night in their Kickoff Classic game at Ted Hendricks Park. Springs jumped out to an early 14-0 lead only to have Palmetto tie it back up early in the 3rd quarter. Springs then separated themselves again heading into the fourth with a 26-14 lead. Palmetto storm back and secured a 34-26 victory over Springs.

Below are some of the players that stood out on the night.

********Palmetto********

Michael Dallas (pictured) 2010 LB 5′11″ 200: Dallas was a violent collision waiting to happen Thursday night. This inside linebacker was making big hits all night long, whether on the kickoff team, kickoff return team, or on defense. In the fourth quarter, he dropped into coverage, came away with a huge interception, and returned it down inside the 5-yard line to set up the go-ahead score.

Eldridge Wilcox 2012 WR 6′2″ 190: Wilcox will certainly be a player to watch over the next couple of years. He has great size and good speed once he stretches his legs out. He had some nice grabs on the night, and showed he could get some YAC as well. Wilcox also lined up at free safety some.

Anthony Clark 2011 WR 6′2″ 170: Clark is a big target that will not ‘wow’ you with his speed, but its good enough. He showed sure hands, and is a solid possession receiver.

Jamaine Brooks 2010 DL 6′3″ 280: Brooks is a big body that they move around on the defensive line. He moves well and got some pressure on the quarterback most of the night. It will be interesting to watch his play over the course of his senior season.

Others of Note: Wilfred Butler 2010 RB, Michael Nettles 2010 OL, Darren Pinnock 2010 OL, Mark Parra 2010 OL

********Miami Springs********

Randy Williams 2010 S/OLB 6′1″ 190: Williams plays with reckless abandon on the field and is one of the more aggressive players you will find. He was the best player on the field this night, getting tackles for loss, a sack, and plenty of big hits. Williams has very good speed and the most notable play he had was when he flew towards a ball carrier on the side line and ended up clothes lining the player.

Rakeem Cato 2011 QB 5′11″ 160: Cato was pressured all night long, but his feet kept getting him out of trouble. He never got flustered and always kept his eyes down field looking to find a receiver, which he did on several occasions. Cato has a strong arm that allows him to zip the ball into tight spaces. Even though he threw two interceptions, one a jump ball at the end of the half, Cato was very impressive considering how much heat he was feeling from the pass rush.

Tommy Shuler 2011 WR 5′8″ 160: Shuler is Cato’s favorite target and when the play starts to break down look for the ball to go to Shuler. He does a good job finding openings in the defense and presenting himself to the QB. Shuler has excellent speed and shake, making him a threat deep and on underneath routes.

Ladell Pleasures 2011 ILB 6′0″ 215: Pleasures was in on his fair share of plays before cramps slowed him the second half. He has nice build, runs fairly well, and has a nose for the ball.

Willis Wright 2010 WR 6′0″ 190: Wright has very impressive athleticism. He was able to show a good burst of speed, great leaping ability, and was tough to bring down after he catches the ball.

Others of Note: Tirrel Dickens 2011 FS/WR, Tyrone Bibby 2011 WR, Nikorey Benyard 2011 DE
