Watch Wilkins this Fall
August 19, 2009 by Luke Stampini
Last fall during Hialeah’s youth movement one 2011 prospect that stood out was wide receiver Craig Wilkins. As the 5-foot-11, 171-pounder’s junior campaign inches closer he wants to make big splash this season.
“I want at least 50 catches, 700 yards, 10 touchdowns, and I play defense so I want at least 25 tackles and 3 picks,” said Wilkins.
All are very obtainable stats for the Thoroughbreds’ main receiving threat who also lines up at safety occasionally. Wilkins has proven to be deep threat in the past feels he brings more to the table than just excelling in the vertical passing game.
“I have nice hands, excellent hands,” said Wilkins. “I cut my routes sharp and I’m aggressive.”
Hialeah is in the thick of fall practices now as they prepare to travel to Naples next week for their Kick-Off Classic game. Wilkins talked briefly, on how practices have been going for the T-Breds and the upcoming gave against Naples.
“They have been fast with a lot of intensity. We try to have our mind set on having a great season.
“I hope they give us a game, hope I play my best. I hope we win.”
Wilkins has been battling a wrist injury this summer that has caused him a few problems at 7-on-7 events, but for now, he will play through the nagging pain.
“My wrist injury, I still play through it. I don’t know I just play through it and see how it goes.”
Nagging injury or not look for Wilkins to have a strong season and to be one of the top receivers in South Florida for the class of 2011.
