White Likes Lights, Talks Visits
October 6, 2009 by Luke Stampini
St. Thomas Aquinas running back James White showed the nation Friday night in the fourth quarter of the nationally televised game against Byrnes (SC) the talents he has on the field. White had 100 yard in total offense during the game, 63 of which came in final quarter. White’s touchdown catch out of the backfield sealed the victory for the #1 ranked Raiders.
“The last drive it felt like someone had to step up and lead the offense down and it just happen to be me that drive,” said White. “I just did what I could to get the touchdown and help my team get the victory.”
STA has had two games so far this fall, both times White gave fans a taste of the his talents many in South Florida have known since his sophomore year.
“I just try to give it my all every game and it just so happens that I’ve had two good games on the national broadcasts,” said White. “I guess when the lights are on I play well, sometimes.”
The recruiting process has been a little frustrating for White, who has seen many of his offers pulled due to other running backs committing first and filling team’s back field quota for the class.
“It gets a little frustrating, seeing what’s going to happen next,” said White. “Who’s going to pull the next scholarship and things like that? Instead of you narrowing your list (of schools), they narrow it for you. It happens.”
White has made official visits to Iowa and Wisconsin, Iowa being one of the schools to fill up at running back. White discussed his thoughts on Wisconsin.
“They are doing real good right now on the season, and they’re running the ball a lot. John Clay, he’s doing real good. Zach Brown’s having a little trouble, but he’s also a great running back. Coach Settle is a real good running back coach, really down to earth.”
On November 28 White will take his only other planned official visit to N.C. State. White had the following to say about the Wolfpack.
“They have two senior running backs leaving, I know that, and they play a freshman so far. It looks like I can get in the rotation early. Coach (Tom) O’Brien seems likes he’s having the program on the up rise.”
When asked if his decision would come down to the Badgers and Wolfpack, White was not ready to admit that.
“Not necessary, I’m still trying to find what’s best for me.”
White and his STA teammates will face Nova this Friday.
